OKTOBERFEST 2009 ABOUT

Oktoberfest Rocks!

Even if you are not a local, chances are you will have heard of Oktoberfest. This traditional festival originated in Germany and is steeped in traditional good times and lots of fun. Our own Emu Park version is a day of fun and festivities. German beers, German foods, great music from the Kalendar band and hundreds of people all set for a good time make this one of the Capricorn Coast highlights.

Planning is already underway for the 25th Oktoberfest in 2009. If you would like to help you can indicate your intention to any of the lions members. Better still why not make a move to be part of the club! Bus timetables are expected to be the same as last year. Click HERE for the Bus timetable.

Make sure if you will require accomodation on the Oktoberfest weekend that you do not delay too long as there is always disappointed visitors who find they will need to base in Rockhampton instead of the convenience of staying right here for the night. The Kalandar Band is now world famous! The date for 2009 will be confirmed as soon as possible. We are hoping that it will be 31st Oktober 2009.

Publicity Information. (not copyright, reproduce freely)
Emu Park Lions Oktoberfest is reputedly one of the best in Australia. Held in the small town of Emu Park, Queensland (near Yeppoon and Rockhampton) this event is the main fundraising activity for the Emu Park Lions. The 35+ members of the club are assisted by dozens of volunteers from other clubs in Rockhampton, Yeppoon, Gracemere, Mount Morgan and others as well as scores of locals who all pitch in to ensure the success of the day. Typicaly a crowd of around 3,000 locals and visitors from other parts of Queensland and other parts of the world will descend on Emu Park, book out all the accomodation here and in Rockhampton and have a great time starting at around noon. The day will resound to the music of the Kalander band and many other local and imported acts. Food will include Tradional German potato pancakes (Kartofellpoufers), German sausages, sauerkraut, potato salad and of course good old Emu Park style steakburgers made with localy produced beef. We could go on and on about the many types of German beers, the wine, the fun and so muck more, but what you realy need to do is as "Molly Meldrum" would say, "Do yourself a favour", and turn up for one of the greatest events anywhere has to offer. We expect the winners of the celebrity challange to face up for a showdown to prove their worth against new challanger, The souvineer and gift shop will again sell beer steins to get filled with a pint or two of great beer. Also all the popular items such as stubby holders andmuch more will be on sale. If you intend to travel from Rockhampton or Yeppoon to Emu Park for the event, there will be regular bus services offered by Rockhampton based "Youngs". Make sure if you intend to travel to Emu Park and will be looking for accomodation, only the quick will get to stay here. All the rest will need to book in Rockhampton and make travel arrangements to get to Emu Park on the day.
