Clean Up Australia Day 2022

Our Volunteers with some of the cleanup effort.

Thank You “Clean Up Australia” Volunteers!
Despite the heat and high humidity about twenty-five volunteers turned out for the Emu Park Lions clean up on Sunday. Hot and sweaty volunteers persevered for a couple of hours removing rubbish from roadsides and beaches around Emu Park. Even a couple of youngsters turned out with their parents to give a hand.

Lions Clean Up Co-ordinator, Denis Ratcliffe, thanked volunteers for coming out on such a hot day, but gave a thumbs down for the amount of rubbish still being disposed of along our roadsides, with rubbish comprising a bicycle, cardboard, Styrofoam, food containers/bags, buckets, rags, timber, iron, laminated benches, general rubbish, and tyres still being an issue. On a positive note, the clean up recovered some personal cards discarded from a local resident’s stolen wallet that have since been returned to their thankful owner.

The hot and thirsty clean up crew returned for a cold drink and sausage sizzle provided by the Lions Club in appreciation of their efforts.
The rubbish from the clean up will now be collected by Livingstone Shire Council personnel for delivery to the tip, a waste of Council resources that can be avoided if those responsible do the right thing and dispose of their rubbish In the proper manner.
